Zeph and Jay's trip to California, June 2005

Zeph and I took a three-day trip to California in June of 2005, and I got to meet her parents and grandmother and see where she grew up, as well as seeing some gorgeous California scenery. Her family lives on the edge of the Mojave desert surrounded by spectacular mountains. A theme you'll see running through these pictures is the Joshua tree, which is specific to that part of the Southwestern US, and which Zeph had described to me before our trip.

The timestamps on these pictures are three hours early, since my camera was still set to Eastern Time.

These pictures were taken from a scenic overlook looking down on the Antelope Valley. The Antelope Valley has a lot of aerospace industry; both Boeing and Northrup Grumman have factories there. I believe some of these photos show the building where the Space Shuttles were built.

These pictures were taken outside Zeph's parents' house (and the house she lived in before she moved east for college).

These pictures are taken from the car on the way to a national park in the mountains. On the way, we passed the middle school Zeph went to (now an elementary school). It was a surprisingly large campus, with lots of long low buildings.

This lovely antique car was parked nearby. I'm not generally the sort of person to get excited about cars, but I'm fond of antiques.
