Jay’s trip to O‘ahu, February 2005

In February of 2005, I went to visit Tom and Tigris on O‘ahu. (Tom was already getting ready to move back to Massachusetts, and Tigris was in the process of moving into her new apartment in Kalihi Uka from their old place in ‘Ewa Beach.) I stayed eight days, and four of them were spent at the beach. That’s my idea of a successful vacation.

These pictures were taken with a Canon PowerShot S410 camera (with which I am extremely happy).

Go up one level

On the 14th, Tigris and I went to Kailua Beach. It was extremely windy. (I gather winter is the windy season, and Kailua Beach is on the windward side of O‘ahu.) I was writing a letter, and every few words I had to pause to blow the sand off my paper. A lot of people were kitesurfing, and the wind would regularly live them six or even twelve feet out of the water. That must be an incredible sport!

After a swim, I went for a walk along the beach and was quite surprised to find a mermaid with an elaborate headdress resting on a sandy slope.
