At White Plains Beach with Tigris, 2003.11.07

On Friday, the last full day of my November 2003 visit to O'ahu to visit Tigris and Tom, Tigris and I went to White Plains Beach. We had a bit of a hard time finding it — there were signs pointing towards it, but they all seemed to converge at a nondescript intersection that looked nothing like a beach. :-) But we eventually found it and had a lovely afternoon.

Diamond Head Crater, which we’d hiked a couple days earlier, is prominently visible to the east. (The map of O'ahu at http://www.nrdc.org/water/oceans/ttw/maphaw.asp shows the relative geography; White Plains is on the south to the west of the bay, and Diamond Head is a protrusion to the east, so it’s about a third of the length of the island away.)

While we were there, we finished reading the final chapter of the fifth Harry Potter book, so now J. K. Rowling needs to write another one. :-)

On our way there, we passed the Hawai'ian Railway Society, and I took a few pictures of train cars from the side of the road.

These pictures were originally taken at 1280x960; contact me if you want original-sized copies for some reason.

I had previously misidentified the oil tanker in a couple of these pictures as a battleship. Shows how much I know about ships!
